Literature Text

“You seem to have a bad habit of showing up here and getting injured,” Tino remarked as he wrapped your wounds from your recent battle. You gave him a sheepish look. You had again borrowed some clothes from the Nordics as yours had been shredded back in Italy.

“Well it’s not like I try to get hit.” You replied. Tino gave a slight chuckle.

“There, all done.” He said, standing up and giving you one last glance over, “I don’t suppose you’re going to ask to leave again like last time, are you?”

“Actually…it’s quite the opposite,” you admitted, blushing slightly, “I was wondering- you know, if it’s not too much trouble- if I could maybe-”

“Of course you can stay!” Mathias exclaimed as he wrapped you in a hug. You gave him a smile as he released his hold on you. Emil leaned in close to you.

“To tell you the truth, he was a wreck after you left. He kept blaming himself for what happened, saying that if he hadn’t been knocked out none of this would’ve happened.” He whispered to you.

“Say, (y/n), it’s not going to take you a couple weeks to heal up again is it? ‘Cause you still owe me a ride.” Mathias asked with a grin.

“Mathias, don’t be so rude!” Tino cried.

“It’s fine,” you interrupted, “I promised him a ride a long time ago. Plus these wounds aren’t nearly as bad as the ones from my last one, and none of them are on my wings.”

Tino sighed, “Well, as long as you don’t push yourself.”

You gave him a mischievous grin, “Oh I would worry more about Mathias than me.”

A few days after arriving back at the house you finally decided it was time to fulfil your promise. You waited until Mathias had bundled up sufficiently before heading out. It would be quite cold up in the air, and he didn’t have any scales to protect him from the wind. You stepped out a good distance from the house before stopping. Making sure that Mathias had his back turned, you quickly stuffed all your clothes into the bag you brought with and shifted forms. A low rumble alerted Mathias to the fact that you had changed and he quickly scrambled onto your back while you knelt down.

“This is so awesome! I’m actually going to get to fly!” he yelled, throwing his fist in the air and flashing you a grin. You almost grinned back, you were planning on giving him a little more than he bargained for as revenge for the sledding incident. You unfurled your wings slowly, testing out the wind before slamming them down and shooting into the air. You almost thought Mathias had fallen off when you felt arms tighten around the base of your neck.

“W-Wait, this is really fast!” you could barely hear Mathias over the roar of the winds.

‘Well, he hasn’t fallen off yet…time for some tricks’

You tucked in your left wing, enacting a spiral towards the ground. Just before you made impact though, you pulled up and started shooting straight into the air again. Mathias’s screams of terror were telling you that the revenge was going along quite nicely.  You let your wings go slack and felt gravity start to pull you back down. You could feel Mathias squeezing your neck with all his strength by this point. Again you pulled up moments from the ground and started ascending in a tight spiral.

      ‘Time for the final trick’

With one last flap of your wings you pulled into a large backwards loop. Just as you reached the top, you felt Mathias’s grip slip and he began to free fall back towards the snowy landscape below him. You finished the loop and dove down underneath the screaming human, catching him on your back just before he hit the ground. You glanced back at him, baring your teeth in an odd reptilian smile. He sputtered for a bit before he was able to speak again.

“Y-You planned that!” he yelled at you, face almost paler than the snow you were gliding over. With a snort you turned your head forward again and, deciding he had had enough for today, headed back towards the house.

Tino heard the door open and glanced over, ready to ask how it went. His voice caught in his throat when he saw a terrified and silent (for once) Mathias, followed closely by a very smug looking (y/n).

“We should let her take him more often,” Lukas remarked, glancing up from his book, “I could get used to seeing him this quiet.”

Mathias shot him a glare as he walked past to get some hot chocolate, attempting to rub his hands together for a little warmth.

“I’d like to see you try and stay on.” He muttered as he walked into the kitchen.

“Just wait, tomorrow I can show you the really fun tricks.” You beamed, brushing past the now frozen Dane. He let out a silent sob, much to the amusement of the two men behind him.
So, this chapter is a little on the short side, but I wanted something a little more light-hearted after the previous chapters.
