Literature Text

Lukas had left some time ago to go and call the Brit and explain the situation to him. Meanwhile, Berwald, Tino, and Emil paced the room while you and Mathias stayed on the couch, your head resting on his lap. You were exhausted from attempted transformations, no matter how hard you tried you couldn't shift to either of your forms. Your body still ached with a slight pain where the scales covered your skin, and you were steadily growing weaker and weaker as time went by. Mathias glanced down at you with worry, and you attempted a smile to comfort him. Unfortunately, it turned out more like a grimace, and you worried that you had upset him more when his expression saddened. Mathias had just opened his mouth to say something when Lukas walked back into the room, cutting him off.

"He's going to be here soon. He's using a transport spell rather than a plane to get here, so don't be surprised if he suddenly appears." Mathias glanced back down to you.

"Are you sure you're okay with seeing him? I"m sure there's another way to fix this." You nodded your head.

"Right before he left last time, there was a...change in his eyes. I don't think he's the same person who attacked me." you said confidently. The five of you quickly shifted your attention as a bright green glow began to take up the room, eventually fading to reveal England. He held multiple books and bottles in his hands. You relaxed slightly, it seemed that you were right about his attitude change. The Brit slowly glanced around the room's occupants before settling on the floor, a sheepish look on his face.

"I know that you probably won't forgive me for what I've done, but I hope that I can make amends. Starting with this." He glanced up from the floor to look at you. The tension in the air was thick, and you could feel Mathias tense up beneath you. Glancing around the room, you realized that you would need to make the first move.

"Thank-you." Mathias stopped his glare to stare at you bewildered. England gave a slight nod and moved to stand next to you. His path was halted, however, by a certain Dane. Gently placing your head on the couch, he stood to face England, their noses almost touching.

"If you hurt so much as a hair on her head..." he drifted off, but the threat was clear. England swallowed before nodding. Satisfied, Mathias stepped away to give him room to work. England began to place the various books and bottles on the table next to you before flipping one of them open. Not even glancing up from the page, he began to speak.

"From what you described, Lukas, and from what I can see, I think I know what's causing this." Everyone's faces lit up at this statement, but faded quickly when England continued, "I believe that (y/n)'s spent so much time in her human form that she's suffering from a sort of magical recoil."

"Can you help her?" Tino asked worriedly. England gave a small nod.

"Yes, I can. But it will be at a price." He looked up from his book to face the others, "She will no longer be able to become human."

The room was silent for a few moments before Mathias spoke up.

"What do you mean she won't be able to turn human? I thought that you were the expert in this sort of thing! Isn't there some sort of spell that will fix this?!?" Mathias questioned, his voice steadily rising with frustration. England turned his body to face him.

"Even if there was, it wouldn't solve the source of the problem! The whole reason why she's suffering like this is because her kind isn't meant to stay in human form, it takes too much of a toll on their bodies! She probably can't even stand on her own anymore! The only way to help her is for me to help her turn back into a dragon and hope that her body will heal!" England took a shaky breath before continuing in a softer voice, "If there was any other solution I would use it in a heartbeat, but there's not. If we don't do this, then she's going to die."

The room once again drifted into silence. You didn't know what you would do if you were stuck as a dragon again. You certainly wouldn't be able to fit inside the house anymore, but the thought of leaving the Nordics again pained your heart. No, you could never return to your life of solitude. But having to take care of a dragon would certainly put a large burden on them. Plus you would never be able to have even a simple conversation ever again. You grimaced and clutched your chest as another flash of pain went through you.

'But at least I'll be alive.'

Fighting back the tears that threatened to spill down your face you slowly sat up, flinching as each movement brought another wave of pain. Once you were upright you locked your gaze with England's.

"I...I'll do it." You said shakily. Mathias opened his mouth to argue with you, but was cut off as you began to cough. Tears filled your eyes as you struggled to catch your breath, and Mathias quickly sat next to you, patting your back in some attempt to comfort you. Eventually the fit faded and you gulped down the air greedily. Shakily, you removed your hand from your mouth and paled at what you saw. Bright red stained your hand and sleeve. The others quickly noticed and rushed over to you.

"We need to do this quickly." England abruptly stated, all eyes swiveling to land on him. "She doesn't have much time left."

You nodded and moved to stand, Mathias catching you and lifting you up when your legs gave out. England quickly ushered everyone outside, snagging a leather book and a small vial on the way out. Mathias gently sat you down in the snow, seeing as you were too weak to stand. The cold air irritated your lungs, and you struggled to breathe as another coughing fit overtook you. Tino knelt down next to Mathias and hugged you tightly as you shook, running his hands through your hair. As the coughing subsided, he pulled away and gave you a smile. You attempted to do the same, but stopped as you guiltily eyed the bloodstains you left on his shirt.

"It's just a shirt, (y/n). It's fine." he said, kindness in his eyes. England glanced around the area.

"Right, this spot should do. (y/n), I need you to drink this while I preform the spell. Everyone else, step back." England handed you the vial as everyone backed away, Tino moving to stand next to Berwald while Mathias stood next to Emil. You turned up the vial, grimacing at the bitter taste. You heard England begin to chant in some unknown language, and felt your limbs begin to tingle. You gasped as pain flared throughout your body, even fiercer than the last few times. Clenching your eyes shut, you failed to notice Lukas and Emil having to hold Mathias back as he shouted your name. You felt your body begin to transform, but unlike all the previous times, each bone that shifted gave an agonizing burn. You let out an inhuman scream as your body grew and elongated to your original reptilian form. After what felt like hours, the burning sensation began to fade. Exhausted, you let your body collapse on the ground, only mustering up enough strength to keep your eyes open. You glanced over at England who was now breathing heavily with dark circles under his eyes.

"There, it's done." He panted, "I'm afraid that forcing a full tranformation like this took away your ability to shift on your own. I...I'm sorry." He turned his face to the ground, his bangs covering his eyes. You would've smiled if you could when Lukas placed a comforting hand on the Brit's shoulder. Murmuring what was probably a word of thanks, you saw England give him a half-hearted smile before announcing that he was heading home to recover. You only hoped that the short eye contact the two of you had as he turned to leave was enough for him to understand your gratitude.

      "(y/n)."

You tilted your head slightly in order to see the Dane who had stepped up next to you. Not saying another word, he knelt down, wrapping his arms around your muzzle and touching his forehead to yours. You slightly nudged him back, too tired to do anything else.

"I'm sorry." You heard him say, barely loud enough for you to hear. Unable to speak, you simply let your held back tears drip to the ground, freezing in the cold snow.
I'm pretty satisfied with how this chapter turned out actually. I have temporarily lost access to microsolf word, so the formatting is a little different. Feel free to correct any errors you see since I don't have spell check and I suck at actually spelling (darn you technology dependency!). Oh, and sorry for those of you waiting for an update to The Water Dragon, I'm having a bit of writers block when it comes to that story, and I don't want to rush out a chapter that ends up being really bad. I pretty much just write when inspiration strikes me, and it has not struck me yet. Anways, enough rambling. Till next time, enjoy!
